The company can certainly modify the programs going forward but they cannot unilaterally implement just any backward changes. They have to maintain al the records and track the accumulation and usage. The cost are also greater than you think. Why do think these reward programs introduced expirations and or decays? It was a huge eye opener when airlines had to recognize all the miles that had built up. But these points are a liability on the Corp balance sheet. I never said or implied points were earning interest.
